Performing Arts - Malhaar

An exceptional Partnership with Malhaar Centre For Performing Arts

We are happy to announce an exceptional and first in the country partnership with UAE’s premiere Indian Performing Arts Institute – Malhaar Centre for Performing Arts. While Indian performing arts is looked upon as old and archaic, you will be pleased to know that Malhaar has debunked this myth and made the age-old tradition more accessible to the younger generation via modern learning techniques.

GEMS Heritage Indian School now introduces Performing Arts as a subject in the timetable and part of the integrated curriculum from Grades 1-5.

This partnership is designed to make sure that children have fun in the process of acquiring a life skill. Malhaar, apart from being known for their original musicals is best known to offer a holistic approach to performing arts. They provide students a 360-degree approach via the ‘learn, listen and perform’ model. Students will be trained by professional artists who are not just teachers but performers too.

Students will be trained in one of the following based on their aptitude:

  • Hindustani Vocal
  • Percussion: Tabla
  • Dance: Kathak

The integrated curriculum will ensure that there is systemized learning and by the time they reach Grade 6, they would have mastered at least one of the art forms.

Malhaar is affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Gandharv Mahavidyala Mandal, India's premier Indian performing arts institution and The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), UK and students will appear for examinations that are facilitated by them.

Our partnership with Malhaar works on these fronts:

  • Music education as part of integrated curriculum from Grade 1 to Grade 5, which will be entirely funded by the school and offered at no additional cost to Parents. Students will take exams periodically and receive certifications for each exam. This programme started earlier this year in April 2018.
  • Afterschool programs – an extension of the above post school hours for all children from KG upwards.
